RepoUK   10 #625 Posted November 7, 2011 We went on Saturday about 5pm. It was busy but not too bad. The non-food side is great (although half the TV's seemed to be labelled wrong!) and the mobile phones bit is tiny. We were pretty unimpressed with the food side to be honest. The staff were okay but seemed to be undertrained.  In my view this store needed another 4-6 extra checkouts, they should have used asda (handsworth) as an example  And had half of them shut? Pinksarah889 Â Â 10 #628 Posted November 7, 2011 We like Tesco so we was quite looking forward to this new store opening. Have to say it was a let down tho. No where near as good as the fairly new one at chesterfield. I don't think it's got much selection of anything. It hasn't got enough checkouts. Fat Cadillac   10 #629 Posted November 7, 2011 Went with wife & daughter Sunday morning. Seems ok. Was interested to note the typical expression on newly installed employees faces - generally excitement mixed with sheer terror as the customers roll in and might just expect you to know on exactly which aisle the Henderson's is stacked!  Must admit I'm a bit dismayed to see mighty Tesco's is clearly determined to give all the specialist food shops on Spital Hill such a kicking. Didn't see that one coming, doh!
 Share this content via...

Erry   10 #632 Posted November 8, 2011 Yes, they promised not to have a detrimental effect on existing business on Spital Hill, but they've opened a halal butcher! After a week, 3 things are clear: 1) Any hope that the new Tesco would increase footfall in the area are dashed. People are driving into the car park, shopping, then driving home. Obvious really. 2) We've lost 'Caborn's Corner', a green space, dedicated to the public where all the demos traditionally have started off. 3) We've lost 'Fiery Jack', the railway tunnel that connected what was Sheffield's first railway station with the GCR going over the Wicker Arches. Progress!!
 Share this content via...

Progress!!  On the other hand, an awful lot of people in a poor area who previously didn't have access to a vast choice of food at good value prices are now able to shop within walking distance of their homes, to say nothing of all the jobs it's brought to a deprived area.  Progress? I think so.
 Share this content via...

ray-ray   10 #636 Posted November 8, 2011 Tesco is over-priced and does not have decent quality food or clothing- it is completely over-rated.
 Share this content via...
