Let’s hope it can attract shops to pull shoppers away from Meadowhall , Leeds and Manchester .

In my opinion it’s vital we do, we don’t need any more Home Bargains, Poundland’s, and Pound Stretchers . We need to attract shoppers that will spend , stop in our hotels , use the restaurants and bars . Tell their friends and come back again.

Well the residential offering helps support the retail and leisure around it and improves the night time economy.

 

If you have more people living near the shops restaurants they will use them more which appeals to people who might want to put a shop there.

 

Residential developments also usually provide a profit - so a developer may be willing to take on the costs arising from planning conditions dictating that retail and leisure forms part of their proposals knowing that the risk is lessened by having the residential element to support it.

 

Or you can just build a 100 shop units and hope for the best they get filled up.

We'll add it to the ever-growing list of things Sheffield is 'going to' have. I like the way the developer commented in the Star on 'how much we've managed to fit in there' - yes, into a drawing you chuff, not actually into the real world yet!

There are stacks of multi storey car parks in the city centre and its very rare any of them are actually full. Some struggle for custom and offer very cheap all day parking to attract punters.

why do we want loads of residential what we need is good quality retail Sheffield is lacking and these plans are very disappointing no new street it's ok just having blocks but better to have a purpose built centre
