Evening Stroll - 5 Weirs, Thursday 5th April

Recommended Posts

Really nice walk amongst great company. Nice to see yet another newbie, Clurby and lots of old faces too!

The walk was perfect really at about two and a half hours, along the Five Weirs on our way out of Sheffield, and back along the canal from the Arena at Broughton Road.

Must say I enjoyed the return part better, apart from the mud!, and yet again there was some excellent wildlife including bats, and an unpronounceable rare type of duck (red-breasted muscovy??) identified by the redoubtable Mr Taxman!

What a magnificent walk. The first time I've been down that way.As with all the other walks we've had - the company was excellent.

A very relaxed and laid-back walk in the evening sun.Welcome to the walking group,Clurby. :)

The duck was one of these:-

Sure was a fab walk - thanks for arranging it

All kinds of wildlife on the walk as mentioned, including something that looked like a cross between a Turkey and a Duck :suspect:

I'm getting deafer by the day - Albert was telling everyone about where they make porn films and I thought he was saying Bournville - made it incredibly confusing :P

Some snaps from the walk can be found here : http://www.RFStock.co.uk - go to the walks section and click on Five Weirs :)

You need to :

1. Go to http://www.RFStock.co.uk

2. Click on the bit at the bottom of the menu on the left hand side of the screen - it says 'my walks......'

3. You'll see the menu expands and there are now a list of my walks

4. Click on Five Weirs

:)

Glad that those that have managed to see the pics like them

What a great walk - thanks everyone! It was such pleasant weather too.. who'd have thought it was an early April evening. :)

Good photos again Grissom... thankfully, they don't show up the shocking amount of litter along the river on the 5 weirs part. The Canal puts it to shame (although there are parts of that where litter gathers in the water).

Just like to add that I thoroughly enjoyed the walk and really appreciate those pictures Grissom. Incidentally back in the early sixties the site where the Don Vally Stadium is would probably have been where the Electric Arc furnaces of Brown Bayley Steels were sited. Any red glow in the sky would have been from the furnaces, in fact you would not have seen any real sky at all for all the smoke and dust. Certainly no place to go for a pleasant evening stroll then.

A enjoyable walk. A perfect video film made when downloaded.

I was especially pleased to a 'Grey Heron' on the Lady's Bridge Wier.

I never expected that I would see that in my life time in the Centre of Sheffield

It just goes to prove that way back in the 1950s when the Sheffield Labour Party running the City Council decided to make Sheffield a clean environment for people to live in, they were absolutely correct, despite the critics.
