bedlington   10 #1 Posted April 1, 2007 The visually impaired people in Sheffield have their own walking group. Some of the walks they do are really quite a challenge even for sighted people. Is there anyone out there willing to try to be a guide for these visually impaired people. This is not for the faint hearted!!!! We always seem to need more guides and the more the merrier on the walks. Just come along and meet the folks and give it a try, no pressure you would not be expected to guide without a bit of training. will give more details if there's any interest shown. feargal   21 #2 Posted April 1, 2007 What a brilliant idea!  What kind of things does a guide do? Are they just "companions" who assist when necessary, or do they provide running commentary, etc? Forgive my ignorance - it's not something I've ever thought about before!
 Share this content via...
bedlington   10 #3 Posted April 2, 2007 Guided walking is basically assisting a blind or visually impaired person to get about, depending on how much sight they have depends on how much you will need to help them. the walking group enables them to get out into the countryside and is also a useful way for them to keep fit. each person is an individual and will have different needs, when you meet someone you just ask them how much, if any, sight they have and what they would like you to tell them.
