Martin_s   10 #16 Posted September 14, 2004 On the whole unlimited thing quick analogy for you..  Imagine a house with 4 rooms, 4 people, one electric bill, one council tax, etc... all sharing a single set of resources... Less overhead on the administration side and less land used up...  Now imagine 4 houses with one person in each.. 4 kitches, 4 bathrooms, 4 sets of bills, etc... Suddenly the overhead in terms of land, administration, etc... is a lot higher..  Same with databases.. each database will have a certain amount of administrative overhead, login information, etc.. and if you ended up with someone creating 500 databases a host will have lots of fun spending an hour deleting all of them when they leave...  There's very little that you can't do with a single database and the use of a prefix on tables for seperate applications so don't assume that a single database limits you to a single application..   Oh and word to the wise if a host uses words like "unlimited" you probably want to give them a miss... There is no such thing... There are ALWAYS limits so be realistic about what yours are and find out exactly what happens when your expected usage hits.
