Anybody interested in weekday evening walks?

Recommended Posts

It was suggested at yesterdays Wharncliffe walk (25th March) that following the clocks being put forward, and the evenings getting longer, that short midweek walks could be arranged on a regular basis if sufficient people are interested.

The walks would have to start fairly close to the centre of Sheffield, and would probably have to be for a maximum of say 1/2-2 hours.

This new idea might suit people who are not able to tackle the longer week-end walks, or who are unavailable at week-ends, or would just like some gentle exercise after work, with the prospect afterwards of a little socialising!

Suggestions for possible walks would be appreciated, but ones that immediately spring to mind are Porter valley, Rivelin Valley, Graves Park, 5 Weirs. It could be that walks will have to be repeated regularly because of lack of options.

If anybody is interested in doing this, would you please add to this thread. To keep matters simple, the same day of the week every week would be best, and as Monday and Friday would probably be unpopular days, could people say which other days they would prefer from Tues, Weds, Thurs

 tis only me.

yes I would be up for these early evening walks, as some nights I am just so bored at home.

For me would be best on either : Wednesday or Thursday.

Excellent! I'd be up for that.

Not so central, but another good shorter route is Dam Flask. Someone (Yorkshire Water or maybe the Council) has improved access around the Dam so it's nearly all more accessible, most of it (I think) being wheelchair-friendly.

For those wishing to supplement the walk with refreshments, there's the Nags Head at one end and the Plough at the other (along with a cafe in Bradfield if people are going in the daytime).

If people want to make it a longer, linear walk, then you can return to Hillsborough via the Loxley Valley, or the Loxley and Wadsley Commons.

Is this walk open to everyone, not just the 'walker's group that has been talked about before.

I would really like to come on a walk but it can always be abit intimidating meeting up with people you dont know.

I'm too far away, and visit Sheffield too rarely, to participate in the walks myself, but having read all the walk-related threads with interest, I've seen that loads of newbies have taken up the invitation of the walking group folk to join them on their walks, and posted subsequently about how much they've enjoyed it :) .

Just go for it, we all did at some point! We are all a friendly bunch, with no cliques, you can tell that from the threads. Why not try next Sundays walk, you van have a lift with Taxman and me from town if you want, at least then you wouldn`t be arriving on your own!

I could probably make the occasional evening walk. Thursday's are clear for me at the moment: I'm on a course on a Tuesday evening and work late on Wednesday's. Once my course ends, then I'll have two free evenings.

What a good response in just over 3 hours! Wednesday best for me, or Thursday at a pinch. Time-wise, would 6 o clock be too early to meet, and ermmmm despite the short notice, anybody fancy a `quickie` this week?
