And what about J H Lord.I think their place was on the left towards Parkgate. The other one I recall was Scotherns, maroon colour, early starters for Birmingham area, they had "Mon Amie" or summat like that on the front.

I think they had Leyland Mastiffs Samson but it was long time ago.
I did some work for them a few years ago they were delivering plastic plumbing tanks and thing for a firm down Tinsley way,the gave me a clapped out Renault ridged to drive, there was a big fat lady running things then, a few years latter a tarmacking firm bought them out they are still there in the yard now.

They'd be popular cutting the rate then Alan. I can't remember what the rates were working through Sheffield Haulage and Storage when I was at Prestons.Gaffer was always moaning about 'em though.:hihi:

Two Brownhills sounds about right.Len Green did 2 x Smethwick-Rotherham or Smethwick-Newport on nights didn't they,£20 a run - or was it £10-for the driver,back in 70s?

Aye,it would have been a full day to do one Smethwick with her. What length did that trailer extend to?

Do you remember a Scunthorpe firm called Reeds, they did a lot of B 'ham area with steel, dark blue Mandators IIRC.Once got a lift from Sth Normanton to Oakamoor with one and the driver was on about doing two Scunthorpe-B'hams on nights, whether it ever happened I don't know.

Long shift that, flexible sheets or books job.:D

I know somebody who knows somebody else that drove for Blagdens, will try and find out who the driver is.

In the meantime another well-known Sheffield haulier,Frank Phillips........

FrankPhilipsAlbion.jpg

A E Evans bought one or two AEC Mandators off Frank P,one was WWB 342G and the other TWE 707L,when I find the pic of TWE I'll put it on.

Chris

think 707 was Dasher Danks ,at frank philips ,RIP Jack,
