Hallam Freight now owned by R W Simpson. worked in the garage for 10+ years

I believe Arnold Pell was an employee of Ernest Thorpe and was paid for the use of his name on the operators licence, worked in the garage for a year or so.

IIRC there was 2 or 3 sed aks painted in arnold pells colours & name in the 80s, i was told he was an employee of thorpes who went his own way but found the going tough so ernie bought him out

The first job I had back in the sixties was with Burnett and Hallamshire, the fuel company, I was based in the portakab office at Nunnery Sidings (opposite the incinerator on Bernard Rd) where their lorries were loaded up with coal from the railway wagons. They had those high sided 8 wheelers. All the dometic coal delivery men used to load up there as well.

Yes, I remember their wagons running around. The smaller coalmen tended to use Ford Thames Traders at that time, which were fairly new then.

I've been racking my brains over Arnold Pell - well what's left of my brains - and I think he had the same livery as Thorpes,I may be wrong of course, usually am.

arnold pells were painted in blue & i think 1 was in a rusty brown colour, they all looked a bit of mismatched wrecks to be honest Edited by mh01
