The Beano and "The Purple Cloud..."

"The Purple Cloud" appeared as a long-running serial in the Beano - or was it the Dandy? - many, many years ago. In fact it was so long-running I think I must've stopped buying the comic before it finished!

To jog your memory, it was about a large purple cloud (NO!) from "outer space" which had invaded the earth and was capable of destroying any items made of metal.

Can anyone remember how the story ended up?!

Yes - if I remember correctly (it is over 40 years ago) - the earthlings invented "black cloud" which neutralised the purple gas that melted steel.

 

The "Purple Cloud" was an arch "baddie" and him and his mob used to fire their purple gas out of ray gun like things.

 

Really weird this thread appearing - as I say it is over 40 years since I read the Dandy - and yet only last week, for the first time since the mid '60's, I was remembered the "Purple Cloud".

You're probably just a little too young to remember it Jabbers - it was in the Dandy about 1964/65.

I read it from `65 onwards.

 

I remember other characters such as Galaxian, but Im not sure if that one was in either of the comics mentioned.

 

It`ll drive me mad trying to recall it now.
