Can anyone, like me, remember when American Football was big in the UK? The likes of the Fridge etc al? I have memories of Sheffield having quite a high profile team, does anyone know what their name was. Please let me know as it's bugging me. Thanks

Sheffield's first team was the Steel City Giants, the spartans then followed and Don Valley then held the European team from England which again was the spartans who started life in manchester etc.

The Two univeristies now have sides and play regular games.

The British version of the superbowl always takes place at Don Valley (Brit Bowl)

Hope this helps

Giants used to play at Owlerton Stadium and played in BLack and yellow

American Football belongs in America, they play it best. Just as "soccer" shouldn't be played in America, because they suck at it!

Jokes aside, the NFL is still big in the UK. If you didnt already know the NFL is going to have regular season games in the UK starting from this year. I think the Dolphins are hosting the Giants at Wembley and half a million people have already registered their interest in seeing the game. I'd say that makes it pretty popular.

Oh, and the Fridge sucked. Walter Payton and Mike Singletary were easily the best players on the Bears team in the 80's and two of the best ever in their relative positions.
