More computer gubbins

Recommended Posts

I recently had to uninstall BT Broadband software due to a problem I was having (on the advice of the BT customer care team) and then reinstall it - which fixed the problem.

However every time I turn the computer on now I get a pop up box asking if I want to connect to BT Broadband via a dial up connection. This is a different box to the one that opens when I double click on the Broadband icon.

It's only a little thing but it's rally niggling me - any ideas how I can get rid of it?

Cheers

What do you have in start up?

Check for a little tick box that turns auto start off?

afaik you don't need anything in startup other than av progs. The other things you have are only there due to the arrogance of the s/w providers who assume that you will always want to start with their stuff.

Go here for a list of programs, what they do and whether they should be in the startup or not:

Startups

Don't know if it'll help but it's a useful resource.

It's not necessarily in 'Startup' but may be in the 'RUN' folder in regedit.

Start..Run..REGEDIT

Browse to

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\

SOFTWARE\

Microsoft\

Windows\

CurrentVersion\

RUN

...but only if you know what you are doing and have made a backup of the registry first.

If it is a dial up connection box that is popping up, you can disable it in internet options, start/control panel/internet options.

All you need to do is select connections at the top of the screen then put a check in the box that says 'Never dial a connection'.

Hpoe this helps!
