I just wish there were more hours in the day for knitting. Darn that career and housework getting in the way

Ah, that's where you're going wrong. You need to forget about the housework :hihi: .

I have really enjoyed doing them. And have now spent a fortune on more yarn for more socks ... :help:

Sock yarn is gorgeous, and there's so much choice! I'm just about to wind some Cherry Tree Hill sock yarn into a ball for the sock knitalong next week, and another for a pair of Quill Lace socks I'm going to make a start on later. Oh, and there's the little matter of the second Hedera sock to knit too. Housework? What housework?! :D

Wow some real sock porn going on here

All your work is gorgeous, I can see how much work goes intot hem I really can, but I just can't personally get up any urge or excitement for knitting them myself. Lovely choices of yarn though and the detail is amazing, i'd be scared to wear them.

I am using some sock yarn myself at the moment as i've been knitting some doll clothes for Blythe and Pullip dolls.

Just now, right now, this very minute, I have finished off my little girl's doll  She has called her Jessica. Now my little boy wants me to knit him all the Power Rangers! :gag: Trouble is, I've seen a pattern out there, but don't fancy tackling it! :nono: And, hubby has an order in for the ITV Monkey! That's half finished in the garage, so might pick that up again. We'll see. Anyway, here she is........

Little Missy - they look brilliant - what was the problem with the grafting...could it be fixed?

Seeing the teeny bit of yarn left from those socks made me think about posting this. I just finished a scarf and told myself that I'd knit until I ran out of wool which means because it's knitted at an angle you have decide to finish mid way through a triangle and then knit a corner. I looked at the ball I had left and decided there was loads left although not quite enough for another repeat so I started with knitting the corner. As you knit the corner the rows get shorter so I wasn't too worried when the ball suddenly looked very small. When I had an arm's length left and less than a dozen stitches on the needles I was much less confident. When it came to sewing the end in I did just that, I didn't need to cut it from the ball as it was less than a foot long. At least I had plan B, you can't just make a sock a bit shorter if you run out of yarn.

My first sock toe was a classic, I thought I could remember how to graft, failed dismally and had to unpick it and start over. On my second attempt I managed to drop a stitch without noticing and it wasn't until the interesting ladder developed that I realised what I'd done. The next time I had the Knitty tutorial open in front of me because I'd proved beyond doubt that I had forgotten what I was doing.

Wheezy, if you knit one Power Ranger you will end up knitting them all and then have to come up with an excuse why you can't knit the bikes/planes/spaceships too.

Somehow or other I managed to do it in completely the wrong place - ie instead of along the toes I grafted from the top of the foot, around the toes to the base of my foot (sorry, that isn't very clear).

Because it was my first ever, *ever* sock, I have decided to leave it. It wasn't that great a sock (I have ladders where the DPNs crossed and my tension wasn't that great) so I am not bothered. I will keep it as a testament to my first ever sock! Now started a 3rd so I can have a pair :D

And thank you. I am well chuffed with how they came out, hence the reason I am not too bothered about making a 3rd

Wow, everybody has been soo busy. I used Lorna's Laces Gold Hill for the rolling Thunder sock and size 8/0 japanese seed beeds (which surprise, surprise I mananged to source from a local shop).

It never ceases to amaze me how resourceful us knitters are when the odds seem stacked against us - with Lisa and Wooly nearly running out of yarn. We hit hurdles but still carry on.

Keep it up girls :)

Wow, it's a sock frenzy in Sheffield :D and every single one is  ! Lisa, Turra, Little Missy and Hecate, you are all pulling me that bit closer to my first pair ;)

(And after the other thread, Hecate, I have to point out that you Hedera is perfect!)
