Or failing that many PS1 (and PS2) games are going to be made available online on the Playstation 3's PSN (PlayStation Network), which you can then transfer to your PSP (wireless if you like) and play to your heart's content :)

Yes there is. You need to use Dark Alex's cracked firmware update instead of the official Sony one on your PSP - link above (if you have already upgraded to the latest release you will need to downgrade and then upgrade again - see http://www.pspupdates.com for various tools to use). This will allow you to play 'eboot' rips of PS1 games, which you can encode by using software tools such as Popstation.

Disclaimer 1: I use the above tools to play the games I already bought at full price for the PS1 on my PSP, not to illegally copy games. I am in no way condoning piracy, and feel that it is unfair to be charged the cost of these games again in order to download and run them using the PS3 service (a feeling which many journalists, such as those who write for Retro Gamer, have also publically stated).

Disclaimer 2: Downgrading or using cracked firmware for the PSP may 'brick' your unit (make it unusable). There is only a small risk that it happens, but it is still a risk. Sony will not replace bricked PSPs.

Now those disclaimers are out of the way, FF7 on the PSP is great! In fact all my old games are seeing a new lease of life on the handheld now.
