Central heating loses pressure every time it's used

Every time that I put my central heating on, my boiler loses about 75% of its pressure by the time I turn it off again (after 8 hours or so). This means that I have to top it up after every use before turning on the next time.

I've checked for leaks and can't find any, and bled all the radiators a few times but no air is coming out.

I've searched the Internet but found nothing specific to help, although it sounds like there must be a leak somewhere or air is getting into the system. Anyone got any ideas before I call a plumber?

The boiler is a Ferroli Combi 77 FF sealed system.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions. :)

The advice given to us by quite a few different people in the know about these things, is to get rid of the Ferroli boiler !!

We had one fitted in our old house and it kept breaking down ALL the time..Every gas fella that came to mend it, and a few we've spoken to recently, say that Ferroli had a dodgey batch of boilers come through and that ours was probably one of them, and advised us to replace it.. We spent more trying to fix it than it would have done buying another new boiler..

The last time it broke down, we'd really had enough so we did get a different boiler fitted...

Did you have it fitted around 5/6 years ago by any chance ??

I know this doesn't solve the problem now, but I would definitely think about getting a replacement boiler..

The boiler is fine apart from the pressure problem, but I guess it could be dodgy.

I bought house about 14 months ago and I don't know when the boiler was fitted because its manual doesn't have any dates in it. However, I have found some receipts from plumbing supply shops that are dated 2002 so you could be right there! :P

I'm actually thinking of selling the house and so I don't really want to start spending lots of money on the boiler, but it looks like I may have to, or reduce the sale price. :(

Must be a leak somewhere or you wouldn't be able to top it up cos it would be full.

Any idea how I would go about finding the leak?

When it is used for general hot water including the shower and doesn't lose any pressure. It only loses pressure when the central heating is used.

Thinking about it that way, it must be a leak in the system rather than a fault with the boiler itself then?

We have a Ferroli and it's been nothing but trouble the last couple of years...... and yes it was fitted 5-6 years ago too.

What brand is reliable?

we are having our ferroli replaced this weekend, it has the same problem apparently it was the little tank holding the water that was leaking in ours, cant remember what the little tank was called.. but the leaking water has corroded the rest of the boiler so we had to buy a new one. must remember to thank the lying git's who sold us the house a few years ago who said the boiler was fine. because they must have known about the leak..

I have been told that this perticular brand of boiler are not the best
