Knitting machines

Welcome to the knitting group  .

I think most favour hand-knitting, though I know that some of the knitters on here have experience of using knitting machines. I haven't used them myself, but would jump at the chance when a pattern calls for massive expanses of stocking stitch, for example.

Do you do both, or do you prefer to stick to machine knitting?

Hi,

I have an old knitting machine, bought it last year already but apart from a little swatch I haven't used it yet. I really do want to learn to use it but I struggle with basic things so that stops me from going further. I'm hoping to find someone who can help me to overcome these starters problems.

HI :waves:

I've got a Bond Knitting Machine, it's very basic (back and forth, no computer to break or anything) and I enjoy using it once it's set up - tends to be the tricky part.

I knitted these leg warmers on it a while back

leg warmers

Thanks. I have an old Brother. My problem is the so called e-cast on. An open cast on is no problem, but as soon as I try the proper one, the yarn gets stuck. As this is the most basic thing, I haven't been able to try anything else.

I've got a correspondence course (xmas present) but was not able to do anything with it due to this silly problem. :(

Isn't there any contact details in the course for when you get stuck? surely they expect people to have questions on a course?

I don't know anything about an e-cast on sorry, I find it fiddly enough doing the basic one!

The course assumes that you know the basics :( I'm just following the manual still ...

One day i will find someone who works/worked with an old Brother, has loads of time (:P ) and fancies teaching machine knitting. But meanwhile I knit by hand - the machine can wait, I love the hand knitting far too much

I think the legwarmers you made are great, and very clever that you knitted them on the machine!

I do like using the Bond - it's very much like weaving, you just go up and down and up and down... there is no technology involved, other than my brain...

:suspect:

I'm assuming you've trawled the net for brother related stuff?

Indeed, found a lot of interesting stuff on the net, have books and some magazines as well. One day however I will 'see the light' and machine knit happily away. :D
