my husbands best friend, friend fit's central heating systams and boiler's but he is not registered, i was speaking to one of the mum's at school about general stuff and she told me some bloke fittered her heating and everytime she turns on the boiler she smells gas outside,

it was him who done it.

He had fitted it wrong and it was leaking gas!!!!

Would you report him?

I would suggest waiting until it is front page news on all the national newspapers "family die due to faulty heater" and then you can say "I knew he was no good".

Well if he carries on and a family dies due to carbon monoxide poisoning as a result of his work...How would it make you feel?

If he isn't corgi registered - He shouldn't be even touching a boiler. Better yet, the idiots who hire people like this need their hand slapping too.

Please do not have him. Everyone who installs gas has to be registered, and takes an exam at college for each appliance he fits. He sounds like a cowboy to me, and could endanger lives.Hes very lucky he hasnt been reported.,and yes I would report him.

Of course you should shop him...people could be killed as a result of him doing a dodgy job for someone on the side.

Registration in areas such as this exists for a reason and a very sound one at that.

yes i would too. i'd rather have the guilty conscience of someone having to take a test, or losing his job. than that of some poor children never waking up beacuse of his dodgy work.

The important thing is to get the installation checked straight away. If it is gas you can smell then the immediate danger would be explosion rather than poisoning.

If the installation is at fault he should be reported.

Although it is better to use a registered fitter, not being registered does not necessarily mean he doesn't know what he's doing. I fitted my own boiler, but had it checked by a BG engineer. It was fine.

The best thing to do is report him, even if he is a friend of a friend. Don't feel guilty about doing it, you have nothing to feel guilty for, he is the one being illegal not you.
