Story: 'Reading Can Be Dangerous.'

Nice one Falls, and fare comment Mantas.

I remember once sat in the dentist waiting room and an old chap beside me was huffing, puffing and shuffling about, he finally got up and said “I fought for morons like you” and stormed out, I was totally confused, till I realised I was reading Mein Kampf. Had he taken the time to ask, he would have found out I was doing some research, ironic in a way as I’m a true blue Tory.

Hello Mantaspook,

Iran was like many other countries that I have worked in. You may hear and see things but you keep your mouth shut. You behave yourself, you scrupulously observe the host country's laws and customs and they always left you alone. For Iran, we were given twenty pages of Do's and Don't's before we even left Canada.

We used to take photographs at site without any problems but we would never dream of waving a camera around in Tehran or any other community for that matter. You don't know what is a sensitive installation or building and what is not.

Despite these instructions, one of our "You-can't-tell-me-what to-do" Managers visiting from Canada (Yes, he was originally from the south of England) went around Tehran photographing anything and everything and got himself arrested. He spent 10 hours in a police cell.

Our agent could probably have got him out in about 3 hours but it was mutually agreed -between the police (they had the cell space), our agent and the head of our mission in Iran - to leave him there longer so he got the message. He didn't like the police food either.

All great fun.

Regards
