So that's where all the £5 notes are

The Bank of England has £1.3 billion of brand new £5 notes sitting in a vault. But because clearing bank cash machines don't generally dispense £5s they are not getting into circulation:

If, occasionally, instead of withdrawing £50 from a cash machine, everyone went into their bank, wrote a cheque and asked to be paid in £5 notes the problem could be solved.

My mate wanted to take £5 out the other day but couldn't, they should start dishing them out, it might calm peoples spending habits. Be a waste to burn them unless they got *burned*.

I have to collect £5 notes, as they seem to be like rockin 'oss s***.

However much float I take out when I start a shift in my taxi, I can guarantee the first 5 customers give me a 20. (I must have annoyed every shop in Sheffield buying a packet of polos with a £20 note:hihi:).

Still, no bad breath though.:)

They should bring them back into the cash dispensers, I don't know why they withdrew(no pun) this policy in the first place, a fiver is still valuable enough, I would have thought.

The banks stopped dispensing five pound notes as they wanted people to withdraw more money - they don't like people just taking out five pounds at a time - it costs them money (or so they say!). However, I think some ATMs still dispense 5 pound notes as I withdrew some money last week from an HSBC ATM and was surprised to get some five pound notes with my money - first time in ages usually I get ten and twenty pound notes.

Years ago, my mate tried to get 15 quid out of the HSBC bank in Broomhill. The machine told him to do one, so he got 20 out. It have him a tenner and two fives... :loopy:

I suppose they could have a minimum withdrawl(sp) of £10, but dispense fivers. This would probably annoy people though who wanted £5.

Can't believe some of the things that I discuss in here, funny how little real life things annoy people.

dont think they exsist anymore???

I've got one in my wallet right now, you can have it for £10. :D

The HSBC ATM on High St sometimes has £5 note in it. The Lloyds across the used to give them out too but I'm not sure if it still does.

One of the cash machines at sheffield uni usually has five pound notes in. What bugs me is the cash machine by tesco regularly says it only has £20's left, but when you ask for a £20 at other times it gives you two tens, surely it should learn to save those?! :hihi: I say that like they have brains...
