I have to fill up my car water tank every weekend as it is virtually empty. Its been like this for the last couple of months now. How do I fix it? Cheers in advance.

PS- Its not overheating thus far but i'd like to fix it before summer comes.

In the short term. Empty the water bottle till dry and fire gum it (from any car parts shop) This stuff is indistructable when dry and will not melt with heat. Dunt take that long to set either. Just apply a thin coat over the leaking bit and spread over with your finger. (wet your fingers first or it is a bugger to get off) Do this again if required.

!!Keep a mug of water handy and keep dipping your fingers in it and washe them straight away when you have done.

It could be any of a number of things.

Open the bonnet, run the engine and look round with a torch to see where it is leaking from.

Hoses, pump, rad etc..

Once you locate it, it is pretty simple to fix.

Look out for water in the oil as well, that is pretty serious, as it means you have sealing problems in the engine itself.

Thanks for the replies, where do I pour the radiseal? In the water bottle of the car or into the radiater itself?

As well as looking for water in the oil, look for a 'sheen' of oil in the water or an oilmark around the inside of the water container.

You might also be able to see rust marks.

My old car was doing that for MONTHS last year... I was having to fill up before every journey, at the end of the journey it was empty - annoying. It turns out it wasn't the radiator as everyone expected, I think it was one of the pipes. Can't exactly remember how it got fixed though.... Sorry! I think I had it to the mechanic, and he tightened all the nuts and put something in it... it wasn't 100% perfect but I was getting much further without being water-less!!!

Poor car is in the car-heaven in the sky now....!

Have had several cars with similar problems. Cause varied between holed radiator, loose pipe and rusted/failed water pump. My advice would be to not muck about with any of the temporary fixes - go and get it investigated at a garage and save yourself the worry.
