According to the stats on the forum, there are over 38,000 members.

But it also says that the most users on line,was only ever 743 ( Jan this year)

 

Does this mean that a lot of people have joined but are no longer active?

 

Does your 'membership' expire if you don't post for any length of time?

Sometimes there is a mass 'cull' of users who have registered but never posted

 

some register and only use the chatroom

 

some register and only use our classified section once or twice

 

Some use us as a one off resource for information before visiting our city or moving to it

 

 

some go into some sort of rehab, having faced the fact they have an addiction whilst some of us are still in denial

 

Some have been banned longterm

 

some, unfortunately, have RIP theads in their name

those who haven't been rumbled for duplicate IDs yet

Those who only register to spam (but they tend to be picked up within about 30 seconds and eliminated straight away)

I wondered that too. And Strix I ask you this all the time, but do you ever sleep?

I think the "most users online" thing was reset at the beginning of the year, or late last year, because I know it was in the thousands after last year's upgrade, but that was mainly due to the fact that the search bots were showing up as users online, which they don't anymore.

Users come and go, some users set up duplicate IDs and some users are indeed banned. And Strix, Redrobbo - let's be accurate. Some folks have been banned permanently for trolling, abuse of Moderators, threatening violence to Mods, the usual crap.

 

And some other suers have been banned for long periods for the same.

 

the Most Users online flag was reset, as Ann said, a wee while ago and is now doesn't take Bots into account as much as it did.

 

If an account lies 'dormant' for a while with no activity we will remove it. We do this every few months, often when we clear out old posts. This is why the User Count goes down occasionally.

 

And Unregistered - the ones who don't like the way SF is moderated are typically the ones we can do without. And many of them, for all their noise, come to the Helpdesk begging to be allowed back after trolling and general misbehaviour. From the comments we get from people, more people join SF and stay BECAUSE of the way it's Moderated than leave because of the way it's Moderated.
