Belly Button Piercing? is it infected? help!

Recommended Posts

yeah dont use anything other than salt water, i buy sea salt aswell instead of table salt. savlon is too strong to use on piercings & tea tree oil dosnt let the piercing breath properly.

when i had my navel when ever i had a bath i put salt in. i find the best method to bath the piercing is to boil your water put your 1/4 of sea salt in a cup, pour on your water then get two egg cups or shot glasses & fill with the salt water solution. let it cool to a temprature you can with stand with out burning your belly. bend over & put the egg cup or shot glass over your navel so it forms a vacume & sit down for 5 mins. then stand back up bend over again & remove glass/cup, remove the lymph fluid (the yellow crustie stuff) with a cotton bud. then put the fresh salt water glass/cup back over your navel for 10 mins.

try not to catch the piercing on belts & trousers, even just sitting down & your belt pressing on the piercing can irratate it & try not to let soap go near it either. only clean twice a day, any more & you'll just dry the piercing out & get it infected.

i hope it turnes out ok for you.

I agree, this is very good advice. If there's no pain it shouldn't be infected right now, the best thing you can do is stop an infection developing.

I've just repierced my belly button lastnight, I was in a "I want to do something silly" kinda mood, I had to force it, as I havn't worn a piece of jewellry in there for about a year, but it's fine today. I think belly buttons are pretty strong, and can cope well with a piercing, but I suppose everyones is different, more are prone to infection than others.

Good luck!

If you are concerned, go see your piercer ASAP. More likely than not it is irritation. If it looks more sinister then your piercer will advise you to see your doctor or NHS walk-in service.

The above poster mentioned twice daily seasalt soaks - very good advice. Anything else will more likely than not, cause additional problems.

If you can't get hold of your piercer then pop along to Eternal Ink and I'll take a look at it for you (this service is free, btw).

i had the same problem zoboz111, it turned out to be a reaction to the titanium in the bar they used when i had it pierced . i used warm water( boiled then cooled) with salt added until i could change the bar to a gold ring . More expensive i know but it soon healed up after that but it was very uncomfortable when i changed to the ring as i had only had it done a few weeks at the time.i changed it to a ring as it was easier to keep clean as i could move it more freely than a bar . hope it all sorts itself out soon:)
