zippy
<snip> zippy - to summarise what you seem to be trying to say amid your techie know-it-all responses, you think the needs of all age groups are met with current ambulance equipment, so there should be no specialist provision for children (so why are there paediatricians, if children have the same needs as adults?), a levle 3 (itu) transfer is not somethign which can be done without some specialist equipment, specialist equipment that most places carry on and carry back off a standard, up to date ambulance ... you think there is no need for compatible trolleys etc as these needs have been met (good, but hardly a reason why a new ambulance isn't necessary), ten to fiftenn years ago the Ambulance Service in general were using vehicles which required lift in trollies or collapsible leg trollies - these aren't really suitable for ITU transfers whether Adult, paed or neonate in a incubator - hence the reason a number of services acquired specialist vehicles with tailfifts / ramps and specialised trollies ... in the light of legislation surrounding manual handling and theadoption of the CEN contrucion standard the vast majority if not all new on raod ambulances in use with the NHS , many private providers and SJA and BRC now have ramps or lifts as standard and almost universally use Ferno trollies withthe 'mark 6 ' 10 g crash stable fastener and you don't think a new ambulance is needed because there are plenty of ambulances already available. personally i thought there wasn't enough ambulances available and taht paramedics etc were hideously over worked and under pressure. Bear One is not crewed , using Bear One requires taking a YAS(S) ambulance off the road to be used - as did the West Yorshire vehicles before they were taken out of service / changed roles Levle 3 (ITU) transfers are a high priority emergency call and will be resourced in a timely fashion... the biggest problem the Ambulance service faces in terms of workload are 1. inappropriate calls 2. people demanding ambulance transport where there is no clinical need 3. improper use of the 'urgent' system by GPs too lazy to assess patients and the failure of NHS Direct to deliver theservice that the spin doctors promised ( and everyone in healthcare said would never be able to be delivered)
JoeP
Blackvelvet, Zippy - let this drop please. You were politely asked above by Medusa rto not sabotage this thread. I'm repeating that request with a warning that if you carry on I will take further action. That's all I'm going to say.
KenH
The original poster says that the ambulance keeps breaking down and that is is used for critically ill patients who are often on a respirator. The two don't seem to go together and so they clearly need another ambulance. Someone is doing something about it and it seems like a worthy cause to me.
