Joelc   10 #2 Posted February 7, 2007 I'm guessing the 1228 Is a typo.  http://www.crucial.com/uk have a memory identifier that will allow you to choose the right memory for your laptop.  As for the HDD depending on the interface, you should just be able to buy a 2.5 inch drive from somewhere on-line to replace it.  Joel
 Share this content via...

willman   10 #5 Posted February 7, 2007 3 problems now with HP.(since i took it apart this a.m) screen not on - it was apparently so could be dodgy wire. machine switches itself off. button to boot machine up is a pain in the ass to activate (i've stuck a foam pad in & it's working now)  lastly we need to wifi it so that it can access any wifi point.  cheers in advance
 Share this content via...
neeeeeeeeeek   10 #6 Posted February 7, 2007 Are the fans spinning? If its shutting off it's usually temperature related. The on off switch can be replaced but probably not worth replacing it on it's own as the postage for any item from servicesource is 10quid. how quickly does it switch off? Any beep codes? willman   10 #7 Posted February 7, 2007 it usually switches off during use when everything is working. the most annoying id loss of screen. no beep codes it just shuts down.
 Share this content via...
willman   10 #8 Posted February 7, 2007 the crucial site shows pc133 - the machine holds pc100 can i still use it?
 Share this content via...
neeeeeeeeeek   10 #9 Posted February 7, 2007 the crucial site shows pc133 - the machine holds pc100 can i still use it?  Laptops can be funny about incorrect ram, even it technically it should work. I still think the shutting down will be caused by it overheating, you can buy a new fan assembly from servicesource, I had to replace one on a HP laptop which appeared to be working fine but was not running fast enough to keep it cool so it just powered off. Does it shut down if you just leave it in the BIOS?  If your ordering any parts let me know as I just bought a laptop that needs a new system board!
