Jellytots Parent/Carer & Child Drop In Centre Megathread

Recommended Posts

I never really knew anyone except u, Annie, von n gina. I'd imagine most of the kids I knew will be at school now. Unless devil woman is 1 of them as I know her :)

Yup, plenty are at school, mine included. We've got some back with grandchildren, some with second and third babies and of course new members, as there's the usual turnover as some return to work or their child attends nursery in the afternoons or moves up to school.

It's a shame about Kati, I wish you'd let me know. Not sure what I would have done but it would have been nice to know so I could at least try. It's constructive anyway, so it's appreciated :)

Well maybe when the weather improves we might try it again. The times were also a bit difficult as kids finish school at 3 n needed time to get back to car n drive home. Maybe all the people who fancied trying it but have been a bit put off should arrange to meet up and go together so there's lots of new ones together. The thing I really DID like about jellies is that it's 1 of the only groups I know that opens during the holidays. If I come again and enjoy it, I'm more than happy to post a positive experience on here

I run jellytots now SpeedDemon, along with von (used to be boo's mum on here)and more recently Devil Woman. I spoke to you a little when you came on the same day's.

I have been coming to jellies for almost 3 years and can very happily say I have made some of the best friends of my life and would be lost with out them. I have always hoped when people saw our friendship and learnt that it was due to jellies that they would think it wonderful that a group could come to such good, and hope that they too could find some friendship too.

I have very similar thoughts to more recent happier posts and would like to urge those who have not been to come to jellytots and experience it first hand. As has been said we can't all like everyone or every group we may attend but I can promise a warm welcome and a usually fun and lively chat :)

I no longer attend Jellies due to school and work clashes; however I will declare an interest in the group as I am on the committee.

Jellytots is non-profit.

I believe that a recent poster has issues with Jellies and anyone involved with it that are personal to her. I would suggest that people wondering what Jellies is like read the entire thread, then go along and make up their own minds.

I can't say much more than that, not having been involved in any meaningful way recently, but I dislike the petty little bursts of bad feeling that people feel they can vent online in the knowledge that they won't have to look anyone in the eye.

Oo I will certainly bow out of the debate now, as it sounds like I waded into something deep that I know nothing about....! Feel a bit embarrassed! I am heartened by Zebra and the other organisers response. Apologies if I was a bit overzealous in my previous post. Personal vendettas are nasty and horrible, I agree. I will certainly consider coming one day with my little ones, as the location is handy, at least to give it a try, and then of course I can make my own mind up!

I hope you'll find it as friendly and welcoming as I have in the past. :)

I love jellies and used to go a lot, now it's when i can due to uni. It saved me from going insane when pregnant with my second and it's always nice to have a chat with other mums knowing your kids are having fun. Scarlett asks all the time if we can go to Jellies and if she's not at school and i'm not at uni it's where we go.

Good stuff:

  • Central location - great for shoppers, stopping for lunch etc
  • Lots of welcoming, friendly, approachable people
  • Amazing for kids to run about/play/socialise and eat lunch
  • There's loads of space and a crazy amount of toys suitable for all ages
  • The tables are arranged so all parents face each other for easy conversation
  • It's cheap. £1.50 per family and 20p for a cuppa - bargain!
  • You make friends
  • Your children make friends

Could be changed?

  • It starts at 1-3 and not 12-2. Starting an hour earlier would allow mums with school children to bring their younger ones to Jellies still get to school in time at 3pm.
  • It needs to be every day - Scarlett always asks to come a Tuesday! hehehe
  • Recently, tea/coffee is rarely offered? Not sure why, it used to be!
  • "We've provided baby massage sessions , healthy eating sessions, information of parenting (from NSPCC) and lots of other resources and for a while we were even providing free courses via the sessions. We are run by parents and carers, for parents/carers and we can only do our best." Posted by Zebra - I've never known anything about this, it would be good to start this up again if it's not been done for a while?

The above is only constructive by the way - i'm not slating Jellies in any way lol and if this snow stops any time soon i will see you all on Wednesday :D

Katy
