Why? You're not one of those idiots who thinks Al-Jazeera is a hopelessly biased channel, are you?

Of course not, but she is rather vociferous in her dissaproval of islam. Im not even sure if a western station would allow her space.

Im surprised, considering the channel it was broadcast on that she was given air time.

This is probably because somewhere along the line you have imbibed the US neocon view of Aljazeera as a muslim extremist channel, or even more ludicrously, as the mouthpiece for Al Qaida. It is nothing of the kind. It is true that it approaches the news from a particular regional and cultural perspective, but in its news and current affairs coverage it does seek to provide a reasonably fair and balanced view of current controversies. In my opinion, it is more 'fair and balanced' than Fox News (which is admittedly not saying very much). The English language version of Alj is certainly worth taking a look at. Dr. Sultan appears to be equally fluent in Arabic and English, and was also born and raised in Syria, which perhaps adds to her credentials as a persuasive guest on TV talk shows

Our local Irish bar shows Live Premiership football on Aljazeera.

Not many of the regulars can read Arabic though, so five live commentary is played over the top.

It's certainly a cultural mish mash.

I was thinking more along the lines of her dislike of religion. Im surprised that shes allowed airtime because of it.

Firstly, Alj is based in Qatar, not Saudi Arabia. Secondly, one of the reasons it was created in the first place was to provide an alternative view to the state-run and heavily censored TV channels in the Arab states. Its willingness to provide fairly balanced coverage of controversial issues has resulted in bans in several Arab states, although because it is also widely perceived as anti-American, it probably gets away with much more than it would otherwise.
