Yellowrose
I have a dishwasher I want to plumb in but havent sorted a plumber yet. As it is only cold fill, I saw a washer tap in wilkinsons that you attach to a cold pipe yourself and it sort of taps into the pipe and makes the hole itself and has some sort of sealing mechanism. Anyone used one? Was it successful?
nick2
I've used one for the same job as you, it's easy and they work realy well.
Ann*
I've used them and fitted them myself, and the self-drilling, self-sealing DIY drainer as well, and they work really well, although, as far as the latter is concerned, it's better in the long run to get a new u-bend with the drainage attachment. Ginger_Kitty
I had them fitted in my old house for the washer. i had to keep taking them off (after turning off the water obviously) and had to clean them out every month or so as they blocked up and stopped the water, potentially damaging my washing machine. if you can, its worth getting proper fittings when you can afford it. KenH
I have used them several times. They are very easy to use and I don't think you even need to turn the water off (but check).

butchill
It is nearly as easy to fit a compression fitting and a far better job

As far as the drainage is concerned, we have one of those new type for the washer which is like a little spigot that your hose shoves onto. I secured ours with a jubilee clip. For the dishwasher I was just going to get a double adaptor one, Im sure Ive seen one. I dont know what a compression fitting is.

ASPGuru
I have a tap that was plumbed in using one of those by the previous house owner. Problem is that the spike that cuts into the existing copper pipe is mild steel, and eventually rusted away. Had a few weeks of seeing odd flecks of rust appear in the wash before it gave way altogether and clogged the pipe up. I'd say that they are fine as a temporary quick solution, but it would be better by far to have a proper job done. Certainly buy a decent quality fitting rather than the cheapest you can find.
