thanks for all the info everyone....you guys rock! (pun fully intended again)

 

Now please excuse my ignorance, but what kind of technique are you talking about? Quite clearly I dont know much about bouldering/climbing and was wondering what techniques you could possible learn in order to climb something? Surely, if there is something to grab onto, thats all you need to hoist yourself up?...

It's not about just hoisting yourself up. That is possible to use for some routes, but you will find it very limiting. It's about body position and problem solving. The routes aren't designed for hoisting, they are designed to be challenging.

Make sure you clip your nails before you go, it makes it easier to hold on.

Maybe get a chalk ball from Decathlon or any climbing shop, this will make it easier to grip too.
