I know this isn't particularly constructive, but it might give you some hope.

 

I walk around the park sometimes with a lady who has a little black Cocker Spaniel. She lost him a little while ago, and he was missing for 3 months. I can't remember the circumstances that led to him being found, but he had been living with a family not too far away. She is now overjoyed at getting her little dog back.

 

I hope you have similar luck getting your dog back.

Tracey22 where in H'thorpe are you ? I've spent alot of time around there recently looking for another lost dog & I haven't see him, and I have been asking the locals & they haven't mentioned yours.
