The (2D) Ultrasound Scans megathread

Recommended Posts

Hi

Baby view in Barnsley we had one and it was fab. We only went for the 4d scan but they will tell you the sex if you want it is up to you if you don't want to know just tell them before hand.

http://www.babyview.co.uk

Cost about £50 for a normal 2d scan or from £99 for a 4d - I would recommend the 4d as you will get to see what you lo will look like.

Yes i had 4d scan done here, they were really good, and my little one who now 2.5, thinks the dvd pictures ect are FAB, she sits there cooing at the cute little baby on the telly, she still dosent get that it her, lol :hihi:

it cost alot more than £99, but like i said it was a couple of years ago.

Im finding out the sex of this baby september the 5th. I would love another boy becaus i got 2 and their fantastic. But have a strong feeling this one is a girl.

But when we go for the scan if we have trouble finding sex out because legs are crossed ect. Then i will be using one of these places and paying. As im desperaate to find out. I have no patients and hate surprises. When i had my first son they was not telling the sex and i hated it. I want to know so i can go buy all the blue or pink bits. charlie x

I never find out the sex as I love the surprise at the end, but with number 3 I did pay for a 4d scan, although I asked them not to tell me the sex. I used the babyview one in barnsley and it was fab, it cost £99 and I got a cd, photos and a dvd. They do 2d scans as well for about £50. I loved it cos my daughter was fascinated by it all as she could never understand the ordinary scan photos. It was amazing as well cos all through the scan baby was snuggling her face into the placenta and even now she likes a blanket near her face to snuggle

I had my 12 week scan on Monday, and turned out to actually be 12 and 3 days. However during the scan the sonographer did look at the heartbeat and but just said "theres the heartbeating" she didnt count how fast it was or anything. She also just said everything else seemed ok, but didnt seem massively concerned. Is this normal, would they normally monitor the heart rate, or is it usual just to see it flickering away.

Think im just paranoid.

At my scan (which turned out to be just over 10 weeks!) it was just looked at :)

To be honest even at the 20 weeks scan it wasn't counted, and has never been in any of my MW appts so far, as far as i know :)

We just listen to it for a bit, it sounds fine and regular and thats all we're worried about. I'm sure the MW would say something if it was too fast or too slow by her reckoning....

At my 12 weeks scan which turned out to be 10 weeks and 3 days, they just said theres the heartbeat, do you want a picture, then they measured it head to rump and gave me a final due date. They didn't measure the heartbeat at all, nor did they at my 20 weeks. They did however the other day when I went into hospital cause baby was moving around. I wouldn't get too worried and ask your MW or health professional at the next available appt, if its normal. :)

I was really disappointed when I had my 12 week scan also, I had an emergency scan the week before and the sonographer really looked at the baby, heartbeat (i could see it perfectly), size etc. She pressed on really hard on my tummy and got a great look.

When I went back the week after for my dating scan the sonographer had the quickest look, she didnt press on nearly as hard and the picture was really difficult to see. I couldn't even see the heartbeat (neither could OH), she said "theres the heartbeat, wipe the jelly from your tummy, how many pictures do you want?" and that was that.

I totally understand that they have to get through hundreds of women each week and the job probably gets mundane but they need to realise that women are really nervous at these scans etc and just need a bit of reassurance ie " ooh the heatbeat is ????, thats fine"

I've had 3 children and it all sound very familiar, however the scan machine actually records the rate of the heart. Likewise when you have your midwife appointments during the pregnancy, the midwife is checking the same thing in as much as the heart beat is roughly twice the speed of mums. If it was any different they would refer you for further investigation

I dont think iv had any of my babys heart rates noted in my book or anything. And they saw the heart beat at scan don't think they over checked it,just showed it me. although they did check at my emergency 8 week scan.

Hi all,

I'm currently 22+3 weeks preg. I had a scan last week to check for abnormality but the wee one is laying face down and refused to budge. They couldn't get his/her heart (which they are keen to get as my oh has a hist of heart murmurs) well the first sonographer we saw was a heart specialist and he spent 40 mins with me pretty much upside down, back to front, with a full bladder and with an empty bladder! He was fab too.

He sent us for a 30 min walk and someone else tried but couldn't see his/her face, heart (rate or chambers) or the diaphram so a re-scan was booked. I asked what would happen if they couldn't see anything this time and she said rather harshly "well we wont keep scanning you" like I was caring about that lol

Needless to say the little monkey wasn't playing ball today and whilst the nice lady saw the heart, it was really shady and she couldn't measure it. Nor could she see his/her face and bubs was in the same position as every other time so she booked me another re-scan for next friday.

My question is - How many times will they book re-scans before they give up and just wait and see if his/her heart is ok and the face is all true and correct?

I'm not worried about it to be honest but would just like to prepare myself for it.

Thanks all xx

I was told if they couldn't check everything on the scan they'd get me back in at 22 weeks, 24 weeks, 26 weeks then give up. So I think it's about 2/3 times. But bubs was in a good position ect so i've not had to go back. :) x
