Buses on Bole Hill Rd

Recommended Posts

Seriously - I am counting the 6th bus in 30 minutes and thats off peak - im not making up the numbers in the slightest.

We get 2 bus companies coming down here and im just saying that I dont think the regualirty or the numbers are justified for the amount of people on them.

..but how do you know how many people are on them? at the terminus obviously everyone has already got off.

The bus company(s) obviously thinks it's "justified" or they wouldn't run as many as they do. I doubt if they'll change the timetables because one person is slightly inconvenienced by it.

BTw the 94 and 95 are the same bus going different ways, I believe and the 123 comes once a flood

Being at the terminus you're unlikley to see a full bus.

How long have you lived there? The 95 route has run the same route for God knows how long, and Tinker Lane has always been the terminus.

So, you either bought a house knowing that it was on a bus route, bought a house without checking, or have been there for ever and suddenly decided that you're fed up.

In the case of the latter, that's sad; in the case of the two former possibilities - tough luck. It's pretty obvious that buses run on Bole Hill, pretty obvious where the Terminus is and if you buy in such a position - expect busses!

The rest of the population of Walkley are also residents - what makes you so important that you wish to change services that benefit hundreds of passengers a day just because you chose your house badly?

As has been pointed out - the 123s run a 30 minute headway throuh the 'working day' and the 95 and 94 go separate ways from town out to their destinations.

It could be worse - you might live at the Heavygate Terminus - the 52s are once every 10 minutes or so. :D

Sorry to be a bit unsympathetic, but you do live on a bus route - didn't you think about the potential noise before you moved in?

Was going to say the exact same thing! I'm sure the bus companies will be very sympathetic and stop the buses just for you :loopy:

i rely on this service, from this stretch of road.

i know the timetables like the back of my hand (well, ok, i have knowledge of them), and there's a First bus every 20 mins, and a Stagecoach every half an hour, so it should be a max of 10 buses an hour, taking into account the fact that they often turn around quickly at the terminus.

Wow - thansk for all the comments!!

I dont EXPECT that they will change their services and I dont for one moment think that I and the few people I know who are sick of them too will have any impact whatsoever.

For the record I also rely on this service to get to my job at the Workstation in Sheffield so I dont want them to get rid of them and I fully agree that at peak time the numbers are neccessary but I dont think that once we get to 8pm onwards that quite so many need to be layed on. Just my opinion

I dont find sarcastic comments particularly helpful and didnt really expect them either - I was just exprssing an opinion as a resident (and yes a fairly new resident at that - just over a year, and I did know that I lived on a bus route and i did take that into consideration too) and wondering if people could point me in the right direction for help.

I dont expect people to agree with me but i find a pretty much full service on a Sunday to be pretty pointless really and they do pretty much run a full service on Sunday.

Anyway thanks to those who answered constructivly and without sarcastic jibes - I appreciate you pointing me in the right direction. I shall complain, I dont think anything will come of it but I feel I have the right as a citizen to make my point heard and I will feel better for it at least.

Cheers everyone......Mark

I wasn't meaning to be sarcastic, just trying to be realistic to the situation...

I take your point, but the buses do reduce in number after 7pm anyway, as the First lot go every 30 mins and the Stagecoach lot stop completely, same on Sundays.

I think the main problem is Bole Hill Road itself - it carries a fair amount of traffic, and although a lot of people living there do have off street parking, some don't, so vehicles end up being parked on the street. As a result, there is often a give-way situation between the buses and oncoming vehicles, which means the buses have to rev more. I'd guess that's one of the main noise issues. What do you think?

I do agree - I think that its is abit of a quick way into Sheffield if you knwo about it and because its a very very long road I do feel that vehicles (both cars & buses) can carry a tremenous amount of speed along that road. Some bus driver understand that there are residents living on the road and are quite respectful keeping the revs very low until turning the corner....some dont.

I think like you suggest - the biggest problem is the congestion and when you get the buses fighting over the space on the road. I mean some of them literally try and battle it out for the right of way and that ends up in them both getting stuck on the road.

The stop starting and heavy revving is deinately the thing that make sthe biggest amount of noise
