I am totally dentist phobic, but this is a result of having a dentist carry out work on my teeth as a child without any anaesthetic. Dental anaesthetic is virtually painless, nothing like a normal injection. Go through it with no needles if you want to (as fox20thc pointed out, most dentists will do this if you so wish), but I seriously wouldn't recommend it.

You need to face your phobia head on...

I doubt many actually enjoy needles, I find the way of dealing with it is just to have a relaxed attitude on the way there and not think too much about it, then once the needles are about to come out, just sit there with your arm out and eyes shut and either chat to the nurse or just think in detail about what you are doing later (or something). The nurse will tell you when you can open your eyes again!

You have nothing to fear from needles.

Ask the dentist to use some numbing gel on your gum.

Numbing gel contains an anesthetic agent, usually 20% benzocaine.

You will not feel anything.

i am not looking to have it done without anasthetic,im looking for someone who still does it with gas cos im not sure if anyone does it that way anymore:| .

thanks for the replys everyone:thumbsup:

I'm not sure if the dental hospital will even use gas as most prefer to use IV sedation now (far bigger, more painful needles in your arm!). Try giving Charles Clifford a ring and asking them.

When I was a student I remember a dentist advertising in the student newspapers as being good with nervous patients, but I cant for the life of me remember which one it is. Maybe someone else can.

However, something to think about in the future, there was a dentist in Sheffield, again dont know which one, which used hypnosis. Perhaps when you are in less of a hurry you can check this out.

If you are in pain though and need a dentist, with your no injection rule fairly quickly, phone NHS direct. They can put you in touch with a dentist and may be prepared to ask around for one which can help you without a needle.
