Where are good furniture/bathroom/housey shops??

Recommended Posts

We're hopefully moving into our own house at the end of this month, so in the run up am trying to budget and work out what money needs to go on what.

went to b and q today and they had only a very limited selection of items :(

what other shops does sheffield have? is there a glynn webb anywhere?

we already have sofas, basically just want to browse bathroom suites, dining tables and bed furniture - so any reccommendations would be ace!

ps the cheaper the better

:D

If you are after dining tables and chairs then I'd suggest a trundle round the St. Lukes charity shops as they often have nice things. The main two are at Crookes and Woodseats although there is a smaller shop on Abbeydale road just up from the bottom of Woodseats road.

Bathroom suites? Well I hope you want white. I looked around at quite a few places and found Homebase to be quite good and found possibly the most expensive bathroom shop ever up on Archer road near Sainsburys.

thanks for the reply, not tried homebase yet- thought it might be just the same as b and q?

ive been lookin on ebay a lot, but obviously things look differnt in real life compared to the pictures, so im a bit dubious!

will check out charity shops, thouhg i would prefer something new - we already have an old set, just wanted something 'nicer' :hihi:

oh and we are wanting white bathroom suite - though there is a nice pink art deco bath on ebay ive got my eye on :D

Homebase definitely had a better selection than B and Q and in between the two there is Arnold lavers which have some stuff in. I've just remembered as well that there is a showroom on Abbeydale road where woodseats road joins it. I didn't get an idea of their prices but did pick up a couple of informative brochures.

The reason for me suggesting St Lukes is because they sometimes have stuff in made out of rreal wood. A friend of mine bought a cheapish dining table and chairs although I thought it was expensive especially as within months you could see the veneer looking poorly and the chairs hated being scuffed, really wished they'd taken my advice and gone to St. Lukes instead.

I agree with Homebase. I did a lot of work in my house last year and got my bathroom suite and kitchen from there. It's worth looking out for their 10% off days and any vouchers that you can get from magazines etc.

For the smaller things you might need like towels, bedding, bathroom accessories, window blinds/curtains, etc it's worth looking at Wilkinsons, Dunelm Mill and the supermarkets - especially Asda. I found them all to be very reasonable and have good ranges.

Good luck!

Good luck in your new digs! Me and my fella have just moved house and we're slowly plodding through 'cos the decoration is afwul! Here's where we looked for stuff in our old house, and where we're looking now...

Bathstore.com is good for bathrooms, showroom off Abbeydale road somewhere, or the main roundabout next to dominos in Chesterfield. B&Q tend to be a bit pricey. Taps are good buy from ebay or numerous online shops. Click Bathrooms is also pretty good; they have a showroom somewhere in Sheffield I believe.

Furniture - Ikea is always a winner, especially if you're prepared to update or change within a couple of years. The move took its toll on some of ours some of it's a bit scratched.

No Frills - Bargain left overs from Focus and Wickes (Same plc ya know)

Wickes - Good for bathrooms, doors, door furniture, tiles etc.

Focus - Tends to be cheaper than B&Q but not necessarily as good choice.

MFI- If you dare. Not found anything that doesn't cost a fortune and is better quality than Ikea.

Asda - As daft as this sound, Asda (Handsworth) have a catalogue furniture service. They deliver and build it for free too according to the brochure. What more can you ask for!

If I think of anymore, I'll post!!!

Good luck x

brilliant, thank you! ive picked up that asda furniture catalogue, so will browse it later

ive also bought the real homes magazine so i can get ideas, then search for them cheaper lol!

the house needs lots of decorating, which im actually grateful for - means i wont just put up with magnolia everywhere! this wil be our first 'bought' house, and as you will know its sooo different from renting as i can buy furniture to suit the house and do walls/floors etc myself :)

cant wait to get in the house and get stuck in! :hihi:

thanks for all those shop ideas!!!
