RE: Decking and rats?

Recommended Posts

Don't see why little critturs would take up residence under decking but there's always a chance. Just the same if you have a garden shed they might be found under that. Decking though is usually against the house and so if something does go under it then the little beastie might find an inviting air grate and gain access to the house.

My main problem with decking is the lethal qualities when it is wet as it can be very slippy.

Hey,

I wanted decking at my new house and someone has warned me off as they say rats and mice bury underneath the decking? That true?

Good idea or not you think? x

If that were the case, then no-one would have shrubs, cos they could hide /nest in the shrubs, no-one would have a patio, because they could nest/hide under there.

A sprinkle of rat poison here and there underneath will keep them at bay...

My boyfriends mum and dad spotted a rat under their new decking this summer! Their garden is immaculate and they never leave food out for the birds or anything but when they called environmental health, they came out and took one look at the decking and said 'theres you're problem!'

The bloke put a trap down and luckilly they havent seen him since but the bloke said that since decking became popular, they have more calls than ever coz the rats love to make nests under there to keep out of the way and keep warm!

They've told them to keep putting poison down every so often to keep them away and so far theyve been ok since then
