Anyone been to Venice?

Recommended Posts

Yes its a beautiful romantic place, you could get a flight to Pisa from Doncaster airport, with Ryanair, for 1p and take a train to Venice, Italy's trains are miles better than ours, its definately worth visiting, or you can get a direct flight from East Midlands to Venice. . . hotels around £ 40 per night. Great food in Italy too

I think I backpacked through Venice, and stayed one night only. It is overrated in a way. Cos the scale of the place is definitely much bigger in post cards !! lol. Maybe cos I went in June time too, which made it a little bit worst. I remember we just missed the Venetian festival. It's expensive. We stayed in a dorm for under 20 per night. Yet, I had the most amazing pizza in my my whole life there ! >.< (It blew me away so much that I can still remember it. Sigh....)

Maybe it's best to avoid the peak season, and the summer months. Cos the canal smells a little bit too. lol. Not what you'd expect. Plus towards sunset, all gondola would be booked up already. So you can't take advantage of a beautiful sunset ride through the canals. (I think this would be amazing, only if you don't clash with another gondola near by. lol.) We managed to do a lot staying one night. I think it's definitely a place to go for relaxing and people watching only. As the place is only very small. Definitely a good weekend break. I wouldn't use Venice to base myself for travelling around Italy though, cos it's pretty expensive to do that in. Agreed with the above comment about Italian trains. Efficient, easy to use, and frequent. You can stay in Florence and do Venice in a day trip.

I've heard it's very overated and although the main part of it is very nice, there's not much to do outside of the centre. More of one for a daytrip or 2day trip rather than a holiday so i've been told! Always fancied going though!! Let us know what it's like if you do go!! I've just visited Vienna which was lovely place, want to go back in spring because got a relative there who's ill!

Went a few years ago in October it was lovely not to busy and not to hot.

I think Venice is lovely I actually didnt expect to like it so was pleasently surprised. It is very expensive though so dont expect to go for a cheap hol.

What ever you do if you eat or drink dont do it in the main square a cup of coffee was about £5 and thats about 15 years ago so hate to think how much now!
