Mandem
I don't know if any one else has noticed how the Star is becoming more and more rubbish. Firstly as has been pointed out on other threads, it is now a morning paper, only being printed once in the day. But yesterday the inconsistencies on the topic of the Northfield Court Flats, were embarassing. The headlines said 'Roof ripped of in Winds' - The roof is still on, and inside it said the flats had been up for about 12 months, then went on to interview a couple who had lived in the flats for 18 months. Last week they reported the sad accident where a young man had been killed in a car accident, they said he was in the car on his own, he was the driver, and he was driving a Citroen. The next day the report was completely different, he wasn't the driver, there had been three of them in the car, and it was a Ford Escort. don't they have people who check stories before they are printed. If the Star is not careful it will slide so far downhill there will be no way back. This is just my opinion.

neeeeeeeeeek
It's been trash for years to be honest, I had not noticed it getting any worse as I don't think it can! Some of the garbage it prints is beyond belief.
muddycoffee
It has never been good. I can point out stories over 30 years which I have been involved in having grown up in the city. All of which were totally divorced from fact. The journalists sometimes seem to make up most of what they write, wether it damages the businesses/people involved or not. I would add though, having briefly done work in local newspapers all over the country that they are all the same. One old lag told me in the 1990s that, local journalism went down hill when the reporters started filing stories via their own computers from home, in the old days someone with experience would lay out and check each story, but now they are just thrown together at the last minute with far too much haste. I suppose now they can compose their articles in the car and send them from the scene of an event. Probably even less likely to be checked out. Especially if locals give them a biased view of the story. I know I would.
banesmabes
Have to agree that I can never remember it being much cop. I only get it on Thursdays now for the jobs, but I am appalled at the number of times I have read an article only to find that it has been cut off in the middle of a sentence, with no indication of whether it is continued elsewhere. Does the Star not employ editors? Also, having to deal with them when placing adverts is very frustrating. They are useless at this as well. You can send them the perfect advert, that they don't need to do anything to, but when they send the proof back they have completely changed the text! I sent them an ad that had two completely different jobs detailed in it, and they decided to change both the salaries, and the description for the second job so that it just repeated what the first job said. When the second proof came back they'd changed these back, but had then decided to change the closing date - to a date 7 months BEFORE the ad went out!! Useless, just useless. Stockers
Its a Sheffield Wednesday rag and i stopped buying the rubbish years ago. A friend of mine worked in the advertising dept for years and he told me recently the readership had gone from approx 160k (about 8-9yrs ago) to 60k in recent years. Even the football match reports are totally wrong sometimes which is a disgrace when the teams have been playing at home. How hard is it for a journolist to get to a match in Sheffield on a Saturday afternoon?
CHAIRBOY
Recently claimed that Pete Stringfellow and Joe Cocker were former pupils of Firth College! How old does he think they are? Central Technical School maybe?
angle20
Maybe a newspaper can only be as good as the place it reports on?
