Record Collector, Broomhill

Recommended Posts

What is happening to Record Collector in Broomhill? Everytime I got in there the stock gets less and less and the stuff that is in there doesn't seem to change.

After the closure of Kenny's Record Shop in Wicker, Record Collector was some form of alternative but alas, for collectors like I now I am using Amazon or a shop in York.

Sheffield has a requirement for a specialist shop, if not Record Collector, where?

Would that be the one in High Ousegate, York?

Record Collector doesn't even open on Wednesdays now. Maybe it's because of the likes of Amazon that businesses like Record Collector ain't 'what they used to be.'

Sadly, it isn't only small independant record retailers who are suffering the impact of internet shopping.

Don't forget also the impact MP3 players are having. Small music retail outlets are really up against it. Like banks, we'll be left with just a few to choose from.

In a few years' time, every shopping arcade and high street will be unrecognisable from others in any other street/town/city.

Record collector has suffered because it was so bloody expensive!

it probably has had to bump up its prices over the years to stay afloat - its a great shop and a much better experience than buying online - but the customer will always go for the cheaper option, well i do anyway.

I don't go for the cheaper option, but I would like some form of option!

Record Collector costs a fortune and never has anything I want in stock. A shame as I like buying from wee music shops.

how do you mean? there are plenty of options out there, surely your not saying you shop there because you have no other options? :)

I noticed that too,

the last time I went I spent at least 20 minutes looking for anything which interested me, but unfortunately it seem that it is a dumping ground for all the rubbish which nobody wants.

Much better to go to Fopp,

Last week I got 3 CDs for 3 quid each. And they weren't even second hand. For that price it is not worth copying them, I would rather have the original case and artwork. Everytime I go there there is always a couple of things to fill gaps in my collection..

Agree with you Muddy.

Fopp has some terrific bargains. I usually buy stuff to replace vinyl records and usually costing around a fiver each (or CDs which contain songs from the 1980s I've always wanted to get hold of).

Supermarkets are constantly offering cheaper CDs and I noticed in Woolies last week some well known CDs on sale at £3.97.

It is understandable that retail stores are struggling when you see the prices of CDs so cheap on the internet. I just bought one from Amazon marketplace for £1.25, of which £1.24 was the postage! Even some of the rare ones can be bought cheaply if you have the time to shop around. As I only buy obscure power pop/guitar band music, which seldom sells well in this country, I have now given up trawling through the stores and stick to the net for all my purchases.

7 Hills, I have no other option. Fopp do not cater for 1950s rock'n'roll, and certainly the big ones don't (virgin, HMV etc.) I use the internet, although I really don't like too and did use Record Collector. I don't mind the prices, because the format may have changed, but I am a collector, not a buyer.
