How bizarre was us hosting the World Student Games?

 

I was young at the time and thought it was a big thing - but since then in all my life I've never heard of the World Student Games since. Does it still happen? If so, where is the next one?

 

What was the reason we went for it?

Some big cities there? Still though, what was the plan - did we think it would make the city some money in the long term?

 

I just don't get what the strategy was - its not exactly a big event is it?

I loved the Student Games, I was 18 at the time, and was the Official Attache for the Irish Ladies Hockey Team, I got the job because I was quite a good player myself, playing for Sheffield Ladies and South Yorkshire, it was an amazing experience, we had the 'beeper' thingies for communications between the Attaches and Game Central, we all dossed in the old Hyde Park 'Village', it had a nightclub and a huge marquee for meals etc, the Canadians were the party animals, I met sooooo many young athletes who went on to bigger and better things, if you were a volunteer for Sheffield you were then invited to go on to Buffalo for the next games it really was an amazing experience, I would love to get hold of any footage that's out there, x
