dagger
Anyone know where the nearest Reptile / Exotic vets is? I have a very poorly Leopard Gecko, I think he has a parasite. He's eating crickets (only) and regurgitating them later, he is very skinny, i've never seen a Gecko so skinny. Thanks
bluesandtwos
sounds like a parasite infection. panacur seems to be the drug of choice, but no idea on dosage for gex. dont know a good herp vet locally, we use the zoovet group in leeds, as I believe expertise is worth travelling for where the specialist requirements of reptiles are concerned. sounds like you ought to try some rehydration therepy too, reptaide or something similar as you seem to be describing a very sick gex
astraman
Hall Court vets at Dinnington seemed to know what they were doing when we had to take our iguana in. Their phone number is 01909 562319. Hope this helps.

AdRiAn-MaC
I know this post was ages ago but it has really helped! My Charmeleon Benson was ill, he had an infection on his jaw, inside his mouth when we got him. His previous owner said he had bitten a piece of wood and it got infected, but she couldn't pick him up because her boyfriend had neglected him terribly and he was very under weight and hissed and bit anyone who tried to get close to him. When i got him i was determined to get him tame again, so picked him up straight away and ignored the hissing and biting and eventually he calmed down and i saw this infection. It looked nasty but i thought 'leave it a few days and it will get better' The next day i had a look, and it had gotten bigger and he had stopped eating. This scared me because he was already under weight so i hunted around for reptile vet numbers. As i have got 2 snakes, a bearded dragon and tortoise registered at the vet, i phoned them up. But they were closed. I started panicking because i knew Benson really needed help...NOW. Thankfully my girlfriend googled 'reptile vets' and this forum came up. Before that though, she had phoned vets all over the country but refused to treat Benson because it was out of hours. We were willing to travel as far as London to get our pet treated. It was a real relief when we found astraman's post, because we only live 30 minutes away from Dinnington. We phoned the number and the vet said we could bring him up, but it would cost 60 quid minimum. However, when we brought him up the vet saw that we were falling to pieces and knew we loved our animals. We told her we would have travelled hundreds of miles to sort out our pets if they were ill. She gave him antibiotics and painkillers and only charged us 30 quid! Money was not an issue, and when our pet is ill we don't care how much it costs as long as they get better! Cheap treatement is a bonus, but not important! Benson still gets nippy when i pick him up but he is doped up on painkillers and is eating again. I am so happy! I thought i was going to loose him He is coming back to his old self again and has been reunited with his brother Royston So thanks to this forum and astraman for providing the phone number, without them my little Benson would not be here today, and it would have broke my heart. Thanks!
ami_j
awww lovely story....though i must say having two male chams together probably will end in fighting
AdRiAn-MaC
They are actually quite good together. It's quite shocking how good they are together I thought they would fight constantly, but they only occassionally hiss at each other then walk away lol. AdRiAn-MaC
Yeah. The last time i took my female snake Naka to the vet (the one in my display pic) she was really angry all the time and constanly trying to bite me. I was shocked because she has NEVER acted like that. Took her to her vet and he grabbed her, she thrashed about and tried to sqeeze his arm (i was nearly crying cause i thought the vet was hurting her lol) Turns out she was just really broody so i got her a male to breed with. Now i will have baby snakes and they are going to be beautiful because Naka is a white albino and Yoshi (the male) is a black albino...so the babies are going to be gorgeous. I can't wait! ^_^
chaz thommo
i use Johanna Storm @ International Zoo Veterinary Group in Bradford. Even though the shop is now in Shefield, anything that is ill i will still take to her. I display her cards and also one for a renowned tortoise specialist in leeds. Stuart Mc Arthur @ Holly House . chaz
