Fitting a stereo to a Mazda MX5 Mk1

Recommended Posts

Hi all, some help needed please.

The missus was kind enough to get me an mp3 head unit for the car (Mazda MX5 Mk1) for christmas.

Can I fit it? Can I buggery!

I am having trouble getting the centre dash console off, I've done research and I'm informed that I have to remove the two air vents to reveal 2 more screws, the vents can be removed simply by just pulling them out.

I cant get them to budge for love nor money and dont want to try any harder as I've already broken the stereo blanking surround.

Any help please as I'm so fustrated having my new pressie sat in the front room and not in the car where it belongs!!:huh::confused:

Cheers

Thanks for the reply Livewirex, but I was hoping to get a response from someone who may have actually done the job in question. (Have you??)

My first port of call was the MX5 forum, but its turning out to be more difficult than the "simple" instructions listed there!!

The forum says that the air vents should just pull out with a bent coat hanger, now unless the instructions were written by Geoff Capes, I have found this to be impossible!!

Sorry my friend i have not done such a job. I do suggest you post on there the problems you are having or even try mx-5 city at Conisbrough a ring 0845 2300 856 reading the news on there site it looks like they are moving so best to check first where they are before you go they are friendly and helpful. It might be safer bet to let them take your dash off than risk further damage.
