Black Cabs: Are the fares fair?

I Always find Black cabs such a delight to travel in, they dont smell are cheap and go the fastest route .

 

You must have had some nice cabbies. Recently I've had a few who seemed to think I was stupid and tried taking me on the most roundabout route they could.

my point about being stupid to pay the £15 was the fare from town to meadowhall should not be £15 possibly £10 yes but no more than that the fare is the same wether disabled or abled

 

if the meter clocks £15, then the meter clocks £15. the fares "do" go up from time to time, and there is a tarriff board that the driver displays, giving you an estimate of how many miles costs whatever amount, as well as a leal notice which says the fare will be "£XX for the first X-hundred meters, then £YY for every X-hundred metres, or part thereof".

Black cabs are usually fare-er than those dodgy private taxis that I sometimes yet when I have had a few - I have been really ripped off once or twice by those ..

The only real rip-off merchants, are london mini-cabs that dont seem to be regulated as in sheffield and therefore it always Cheaper & Safer to used Black cabs there

If you hail a private hire, you will get ripped off. They shouldn't be doing it, so they can charge what they like. And if you have a crash, they're not insured.

 

I've been ripped off in the past by them, but, sometimes needs must.
