gempud
I was just watching channel 5 and saw an advert for the Art of Knitting magazine collection. I only caught the last bit of the advert but I think it's one of those mag collections where it comes out every week or 2 weeks or whatever, and you slowly build it up into a massive folder and get a free gift with each one to build up your skills. I googled it but didn't find it. They usually do them for everything...I can remember there was once one for building a model boat and I worked it out that if you purchased every magazine for the full period that it was out - which I think was over a year - that it would have cost hundreds of pounds to finally have your finished boat and collection of mags telling you how to do it. Surely it would be cheaper to buy a book and the materials yourself! Anyway - what does everyone think about this? As usual the first issue is only 99p and probably about 4 pound each issue thereafter. I know I certainly won't be buying it as I'm sure it won't tell me anything I don't already know from the t'interweb or magazines I already own. Maybe it is aimed more at teenagers etc? Maybe it will introduce knitting to a whole new group of people that don't use the internet so don't really have access to seeing how much of a boom it is enjoying. gempud
Ooooh, also forgot to say that I had a massive barney with Vogue Knitting magazine as I had signed up for a subscription direct from them. I'm in my second year of it and still haven't received my Holiday 2006 issue. They reckon they posted it twice and I have waited at least 2 months for it and still have not received. After a few snotty emails from them I got part of my money refunded - a whole $15 So now I have to find somewhere that still has stock of it. Guest
I wouldn't buy partworks unless I had a very good reason to. As you say, gempud, it's usually (if not always) cheaper to buy a decent reference book on the subject. This one would have to be very special to stand out against the current crop of knitting magazines anyway, which at least have a good selection of patterns each month. I suppose it might appeal to younger knitters, who perhaps might spend pocket money on something like that - knitters are getting younger . I reckon most new knitters would pick up a copy of one of the knitting monthlies and buy a reference book either recommended by a fellow knitter or in the magazine itself. Wheezy
I bought the Art of Knitting yesterday! Yes!!! For 99p I thought I'd see what they had to say. After I'd recycled all the packaging I had a little read through, and will have a good look later. I DO NOT intend to buy the rest of the publication though, as I feel a few pounds short of £270 is a little much. I suppose it is ideal for anyone starting out, but think that weekly is a bit much. Anyway, just thought I'd let you know.

Is it just another instructional magazine covering the basics, or is it anything like the title suggests and covers knitting as an art form?
