*_ash_*
I'm suprised that it's being partly funded by the council. I've seen some of the devices, and to me they look extremely over priced, considering they only take a few snaps.
Livewirex
Great idea they should be installed in all taxis and ambulances as they all regularly get beaten up by drunken idiots. On the other hand why not make the drunken idiots pay back the money the cameras in their fines.
Zebra
I can't understand why it's being trialed here. It's been trialed in other parts of the country ages ago. It either works or it doesn't. According to the US it works very well and helps settle insurance issues very effectively. Having said that, life in Sheffield is entirely different to the US and the levels of taxi related crimes but differ quite a lot too. Much as I can see the benefit, I actually think it's slightly excessive at the moment but if society continues to decline it will become necessary. tab1
Ah, so that's why the planned refurb of our flats had to be cancelled and we didn't get our new windows in time for winter. Perhaps the councilw would like to pay my gas bill? The money earned by the council's licensing department is not supposed to be for profit but to cover costs of running the department. Over recent years the increase in numbers of taxis to over seven hundred with charges for licences for drivers and their taxis means that SCC has been raking it in.The money has been earned from the taxi trade, so why should your freeby windows come before safety of people who put money into the system in the first place? A little selfish and perhapse with racist overtones too methinks. A friend of mine had his taxi partition glass smashed by a youth who took exception to being told not to put his feet on the flip seats. The Police didn't prosecute for reasons of one man's word against another. Over £100 worth of damage and the he was told Sh*t happens. I might add, he is a white male in his forties and a gentle giant too, and no doubt the other guy would have come out of it much worse off in trading blows. It's for such cases where lack of evidence lets morons walk free that these cameras will help to redress the balance. Also I hope you get your windows. As for being trialed, I feel is just a gimick by the manufacturers to get a foot in the door, and obviously some sales rep has done a good job. tab1
tab1 - racist, look to the beam in your eye and all that. You seem to be missing the point here, please read my reply again, maybe you've got the wrong impression unless of course you feel these inferior beings don't deserve to work in a safe environment? To point out again that not all taxi drivers are asians, and even if they look foreign but majority of younger contingent are born and bred Sheffielders. tab1
Who has called them 'inferior beings'? Oh hang on... YOU did. Yes I did sir and my saying so is in context perhapse beyond your understanding. Take it to any taxi driver and see if he is offended by my comments or those infering their inferiority by winging on about their windows having more importance over these guys safety.
