SheShe
I didn't realise till I read it this morning that there were only FOUR white christmases in the 20th century. Because we all bang on about this I was truly amazed at this fact. The last one apparently was 1984. So all you snow fans out there will have to wait a bit longer and you betting people keep your cash in your pocket.
fox20thc
The last one apparently was 1984. And I remember it well .. sledging down the road on a teatray and a binbag It would be nice if we got a good dose of real snow though, just so the kids can see it and have some old fashioned fun. medusa
The reason that we only had 4 official white Christmasses is that they are only classed as white if it snows on the met office in London. I got snowed in at my sister's (up on the moors overlooking Halifax) on Christmas day 2 years ago- but it wasn't officially a white one because somewhere 200 miles away it didn't snow. I thought they also used the Leeds (sorry for swearing) weather centre as well

And unless I'm mistaken, I recall that means that just one snowflake has to land on the met office roof.

Most of the high ground in Sheffield had a white Christmas in 2004. - but the OP was on about the 20th century; we're now in the 21st century aren't we ?
