Guest
There was a thread about this yesterday. It's profoundly unimportant what greeting is used. Both are expressing good wishes to the recipient, so who cares how it's phrased?
JoeP
Couldn't care less. I know what Christmas means to me, and if people want to call it whatever they want it makes no difference to my personal celebration. If people are really vexed about the word, rather than the spirit behind it, then we're a bit stuffed and we may as well start calling it 'Winterval' or whatever other name you care to pick. Shakespeare once wrote 'A rose by any other name would smell as sweet'. Christmas, by any other name, is still what you believe it to be for you. Rich
Ugh, banning the word Christmas just because the PC Brigade thinks it'll upset a few "ethnic minority" types... Political correctness gone mad I tell you, and the PC Brigade needs to shut up and get knotted, seriously, no one cares.
medusa
Most of my friends are not christian, and most don't use the word Christmas (and are more likely to wish people a cool yule, or a happy solstice), but I don't know any of them that take offence at the word, or at anybody mentioning it. They get quite upset that people put up trees, swap presents, gorge themselves and commit assorted other winter-festival acts but insist on pretending they're related to Christmas. The only acts worthy of being called Christmas activities are worshipping God, and going to Church to celebrate the birth of Christ.
lizzmobile
The thing that bugs the bejeesus out of me is when people write Xmas! X is not short for Christ. It's an 'ex' - not even a 'criss'. What's wrong with C-mas if you want to shorten it? Hmm? HMMMMM?????? Rah rah RAHA AHAHAHAHAAHA! sorry And exhale to the count of .....

rubydazzler
I always thought it was, lizzmobile .. How the Greeks wrote Christ ... it began with a X? Anyway I always type xmas ... sowwy. This weekl, I've been wished "Merry Christmas" by several people who aren't Christians. But I'm sick of all these rants about PC and so on. As a non-believer myself, I'm going to start calling it Yuletide in future and will make sure all my cards say "Seasons Greetings" - so there! lizzmobile
LOL @ King Rat! Mebbe the Greeks did write it that way, I have no idea... it bugs me all the same. Yeah, I look for same ruby in fact. One year I sent only new year cards. The words 'lead balloon' spring to mind
