Let me get this straight,is it because they were 'asian' that you assume its a money thing? I,stupidly, thought that all door to door carol singers did this as a 'money thing'? Racist rubbish, pure and simple
Sultana
I would imagine that most of the kids who knock on your door and give a wobbly rendition of "We wish you a Merry Christmas", are only wanting money. However, there may still be some charitable individuals collecting money for some worthy cause, and I don't think it matters one jot what race/religion or creed they belong to. Tartempion
Firstly, most people who celebrate Christmas don't actually think of it as a Christian festival - more like a jolly fat man with a beard festival - but even so, being Asian doesn't stop someone from being Christian you know... Gosh, I feel so sorry for the Asian community, when they don't join in they are against "our ways", when they do they are just on the make!!!!! What message do you thinkthis all sends to our asian neighbours?
scarby
Feel sorry for those kids that try and sing me some carols. They'll get a cup of water thrown on 'em. (I would use a bucket, but they're all laid out upstairs for when I get back home drunk tonight )
Outsmart
I live on a school route and have had quite a few groups of kids giving their quick renditions of "we wish you a merry Christmas" at the door of late too. Always around school kick-out time. I personally dont mind it, I do think they're on the make however, but you've got to give them credit for being industrious. I mean, the longer the sweethearts are outside singing their little hearts out, the less time they're in playing on the play-station. I wonder why they always look so disappointed though when I dole out the satsumas.
noisyandy
Gosh, I feel so sorry for the Asian community, when they don't join in they are against "our ways", when they do they are just on the make!!!!! What message do you thinkthis all sends to our asian neighbours? Exactly! How very DARE they??? *sigh* It depresses me how hypocritical people are: Asians are slagged for for not being 'British' enough, for not embracing our culture, and yet when they do, they're basically told 'you can't do that, it's OUR culture not yours'! And as for it just being a money thing: I remember being a kid and singing Carols door-to-door for exactly that reason almost 30 years ago! And I'm as white as white can be, from a good Christian family... I hope Suzan can realise now that Asian kids have as much right as anyone to sing Christmas carols, much in the same way that all the white staff in my office shared in the celebrations for Eid a few weeks ago.
