Microwave help - any ideas?

Recommended Posts

Its been on watchdog and all sorts, its the phenomenon of creating super heated pockets in any liquid in the microwave. When stirred or disturbed, the superheated pockets mix with cooler pockets and the whole lot boils over.

Basically you should heat for a short time and stir.

However, if you were testing whether you microwave was working, noly a short time would be enough and wouldn't super heat the water.

Not been clever, just didn't know if you were aware of this. It is very rare but does happen. It happenend to a kid darn sarf in the same company when I worked in a pub.

Well, that about screws it up for any one using a Microwave, doesn't it? :)

It also happens when you put powder into a superheated water - like coffee or chocolate in to hot milk. The powder provides nuclei for the superheated liquid to turn to vapour around.

I didn't know, thanks for that. I did only put the water in for a short time and it didn't even get luke warm. Anyway, I schlepped to Argos and bought a cheapy, so I will bear your advice in mind. It's a bit worrying for people reheating baby milk, especially when it seems to be a little known fact? Cheers x
