Vulcan B2
Hi, my microwave is playing up. It still has power, light, and the turntable still revolves, but it's not heating anything. Does anyone know whether it's repairable? Wondered if it might need a fuse or slight repair, or is it beyond economical repair? Advice please............ Thanks:)
upinwath
Sounds like the klystron's buggered. Given the price of a new one it's bin fodder.
JoeP
Agreed - sounds like the magnetron tube's gone. You CAN get replacements, but it's just not worth it these days for most domestic microwaves. Put a cup of water in and turn it on - if the water stays cold, then it's either the tube itself or the switching circuit. Whichever it is, unless it's a deluxe model or you're emotionally attached to it, you can get a new one for less than the cost of parts.
Vulcan B2
I tried the cup of water, and it's getting very slightly aired, not even warm. I did seem to think it would have to be chucked, just wanted advice. Why do appliances pack up either just before crimbo, or just before you go on holiday? Thanks for your replies. Harry O
It's not turned to a low power setting such as "Defrost" is it?
Vulcan B2
It's not turned to a low power setting such as "Defrost" is it? No. I checked that, and I've also tried the other 5 heat settings but no luck. Guess who's schlepping to Argos tomorrow?
