Tony
Cripes melthebell, that's a can of worms for us to be honest. SF always plays it safe on these things, but no doubt others will push the boundaries.

SF always plays it safe on these things, but no doubt others will push the boundaries. yeah i know i just believe....filesharing itself isnt illegal..........so should be allowed to talk about as long as illegal activities / sites / files arent mentioned then they should be deleted (i suppose) i think threads like my limewire wont work, or which port to open for bittorrent type questions are fine (i know weve currently got a limewire thread now but i also know fileshare threads have been deleted just purely for being about fileshare in the past too) anyway i just got that link on the newspage of my mirc so thought id share
JoeP
Actually, I know of a few corporates who've looked in to running P2P sofwtare inside Corporate Firewalls for sharing data, carrying out updtes, etc. Not astonishingly successful, but interesting. The new BBC venture could be quite interesting - our current policy on here is generally to take each thread as it coems, and act depending upon whether someone is wanting general advice or if they post a message of the 'Where's all teh good stuff stashed?' basshedz2
Except that the service will only be available in the US (at least initially), the files will be laden with Digital Restrictions Management, and they'll require a specific client to access the files (which is currently only available for Windows - and I doubt they'll releasse a Linux/OSX client anytime soon). At least it might generate some postive mind share for p2p.

scarby
I don't understand (or don't wanna listen, choose one) about all the negativity about file sharing. I mean, it's basically like swapping football stickers, and trading cards when we were kids isn't it? Now we're grown up, it's music (mainly) and films. Whats the big deal? Apart from the copyright rubbish?
Rich
Apart from the copyright rubbish? Copyright isn't rubbish, imagine if you'd wrote some kick arse song that you expected to release on a CD sold in HMV or wherever, and someone copied it.. Would you be happy that someone else was stealing teh royalties you rightfully should be earning as teh creator of teh original song?
