Fraudulent use of my bank card

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys,

Can anyone help me, somebody has hijacked my bank details somehow and then proceeded to purchase over £800 worth of goods from ebay....

I have informed my bank which is Natwest they said they are going to conduct their investigations.....

But will the bank give me all my money bank?

Yes. And pretty quick if they're like mine. I had to sign a letter which confirmed I had no knowledge of the transactions but if I did remember, I would have to reimburse them the money they had repaid me. But then, I'm not with the NastyWest so I don't know but I imagine their procedures are all the same.

Ouch...that's bloody awful. :(

If the bank is happy that you were not negligent or complicit (i.e. you didn't give your PIN number out, send your account details to an email address like 'scams@robublind.com' or similar, then yoiu'll probably get teh money back, but it may take time.

No i dont have a paypal account, my card was also used at a cash machine and in a couple of shops. I dont know how they hell they got my pin number; How would Natwest decide whether i had been negliable? When i asked them if i would get my money back they said they cant comment at this time

So do you still have your card in your possession? If your card was stolen and you reported it immediately and these transactions took place afterwards you will certainly get all your money back. However from what you're saying it sounds like your card was cloned and they've either recorded the PIN when you put it into a chip and pin machine, or they've worked out a way to extract the pin from the chip.

If you have been a innocent victim the answer the bank gave you is a stock answer but eventually you will get the money refunded to your account it will take at least 8 weeks I think

Ahhh, they got your PIN. In that case I'd say you're unlikely to get the money back since they will claim you've disclosed your PIN, and thus it's all your fault.

Thats the real change with C&P cards, it allows the bank to pass fraud onto the customer, thus reducing overall fraud figures to back up the success of the system.

The bank will probably try to blame it on you but be persistent and threaten to contact office of fair trading, watchdog etc and you will prpbably get your money back eventually.

A similar thing happend to my niece someone withdrew all her money out of her bank. The bank tried to fob her off saying she must have given her pin to someone. But backed down and refunded when she threatened to contact above places.
