rsmike2002
Hi i was just wondering if anyone has had the same grief with microsoft as what i have had?? My xbox is a launch console and after 11 months it kept crashing and i was getting the dreaded three red lights on the ring of light! i sent the console to microsoft through the comet store where i got it from and when i finally got it back after a month i found it to be a serial number different to mine, i just thought they must have replaced it with a new one. Further inspection when i got home i found there to be lots of scratches and dirt in some of the plug holes!!! i contacted xbox support and they said that they sometimes send out refurbished items, i told them about the damage and they did not want to know!! I contacted trading standards and they said they are not allowed to do this, i am now waiting for someone from microsoft head office to call me and offer me a solution! anyone else out there had any probs??????????????
Starvinmarv
The red ring of death is a very common thing with the xbox 360 unfortunately!! I've heard of alot of people who have had the same problem, it is more common with the launch consoles, i think the newer consoles are alittle bit better than the launch ones and don't go faulty as easily!! I got my xbox 360 last week and it seems fine, i'm hoping that i don't get the dreaded red ring of death! I may even extend the warranty on my xbox 360 for an extra 2 years for £60 as it's probably worth the money incase i get the red ring of death after the 12 month warranty has run out. I don't know if microsoft have done something to improve manufacturing since the launch consoles came out.

Col2k5
Sony did a simular thing with my laptop .. kept sayin they have the rights to repair 3 times and trading standards agreed .. i sent the lappy away 3 times and it went to germany for repair for 2 weeks at a time .. everytime it came back it had a new fault as well as the old one .. the last time i got it back it had 4 faults all together and they still said they wanted to repair .. so i involved trading standards again and then Sony offered me a refurbed laptop just like microsoft have done with you .. i was told by trading standards they can do this .. they will only give you a new one if under so may weeks old .. as my laptop was 11 months old like your xbox its standard policy .. but i was told by trading standards there was another route to take which i did and this is to fight the retailer under the Sales Of Goods act that the item was not fit for the purpose sold ... i did tell the retailer this and they sent me a brand new laptop .. as the laptop i had was out of production i also got the new model ... jumped from a 15" laptop to a 17" widescreen one .. rsmike2002
i can understand them sending a refurbished item but my issue is that it is in a poor condition with all the scratches on it. mine has always been in a cabinet with zero scratches and trading standards quote that any item returned with a different serial number to your own should not be in a sub standard condition. still waiting to hear from microsoft- i will let you know the outcome
Col2k5
Heres the sales of goods act I would try to for : Goods are of satisfactory quality if they reach the standard that a reasonable person would regard as satisfactory, taking into account the price and any description. or: Aspects of quality include fitness for purpose, freedom from minor defects, appearance and finish, durability and safety but you should also see this ..: It is the seller, not the manufacturer, who is responsible if goods do not conform to contract. So it would be Comet you would need to quote them Key Facts to .. Hope this helps you .. Col ..
Space
The early launch consoles were a problem due to them having a very unreliable DVD drive which was made by Hitachi/LG. In January 06, Microsoft changed the drive to a Samsung one which runs much faster, is much quieter and runs much, MUCH cooler than the old one. The problems were caused by the Hitachi/LG drive getting way too hot and melting the processors inside the unit. Eventually, the launch consoles could start freezing mid-game and on reboot, show the 3 rings of light. The old Hitachi/LG drive could scratch game discs too if the 360 was moved while switched on. All problems look like they are sorted now. Obviously, there will be a small amount of faulty 360's just like there is any electrical item. The biggest faulty electrical items currently are supposed to be Ipods, TomTom SatNavs and PSP's (dodgy screens). Keep your 360 in a well ventilated place (not in a closed unit) and keep the power pack off the carpet (these also have cooling fans in them) and it will be fine!
